The Trouble With Maggie Cole leaves ITV viewers in stitches with epic Friday Night Dinner crossoverMarch 25, 2020
THE Trouble With Maggie Cole has left ITV viewers in stitches with an epic Friday Night Dinner crossover.
The ITV drama sees Dawn French play local gossip Maggie, who goes on regional radio to talk about local life in the fictional coastal town of Thurlbury.
However, Maggie gets tipsy before taking to the airwaves and divulges all the rumours and gossip about her fellow residents, real and imagined.
As her words lead to some big consequences, she is consoled by her husband Peter, played by Mark Heap.
TV fans will know Mark from Channel 4 sitcom, Friday Night Dinner, where he plays neighbour Jim Bell alongside Tamsin Greig and Paul Ritter.
And in last week's episode, Mark gave a nod to his other alter ego in a scene with Dawn as he said "Shalom".
In Friday Night Dinner, the phrase is said on a regular basis, and so ITV viewers loved the subtle crossover.
Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "Love the nod to #FridayNightDinner in tonight’s episode of #thetroublewithmaggiecole #shalom."
Another added: "Catching up on #thetroublewithmaggiecole & Mark Heap's character has just said "Shalom" a la 'Jim' in #FridayNightDinner Coincidence? Me thinks not!"
A third tweeted: "#thetroublewithmaggiecole her husband who also plays Jim in #FridayNightDinner just said shalom."
Meanwhile a fourth added: ""Shalom" spoken by #markheap is an in joke of joy. #thetroublewithmaggiecole #fridaynightdinner."
Dawn previously opened up about her character, telling WhatsOnTV: "Maggie is someone who’s quite needy, and makes a big mistake.
"Her world then falls apart because Thurlbury is such a small town, so it affects everyone…”
The Trouble with Maggie Cole continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
