Bertha Russell – Carrie Coon
Bertha Russell is new to the area, having previously come from the ordinary middle-class.
She worked her way up in the world by marrying George, the son of a merchant family who is described as a “financial genius” and is determined to use their money to break the mould.
Actress Carrie Coon is best known for starring as grieving mum Nora Durst in the HBO series The Leftovers as well as Gloria Burgle in season three of FX’s Fargo.
Some of her other work has included Gone Girl, Avengers: Infinity War, The Post, The Sinner and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Agnes van Rhijn – Christine Baranski
Agnes is a proud aristocrat who refuses to accept that the world is changing.

She never married so has had to rely on her sister’s charity to continue her life in the upper class.

She yearns to be in society, making new friends and meeting suitable young men.
Actress Taissa Farmiga was part of the cast of FX’s American Horror Story for seven years, portraying Zoe Benson, Violet Harmon and Sophie Green.

Marian Brook – Louisa Jacobson

The Gilded Age premieres on Monday, January 24, on HBO in America. The series then begins in the UK on Tuesday,
January 25 on Sky Atlantic with the series ready to watch on streaming service NOW.
