The Chasers Road Trip: Anne Hegerty on taking part in the show

In the latest instalment of The Chaser’s Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles, Anne Hegerty, Mark Labbett and Shaun Wallace learn more about their emotional intelligence. Anne, who is also known as The Governess, opened up on how she has struggled to find love due to her autism before joking she is a “cyborg”.

Anne, 62, explained: “One of the things that really goes along with autism, I really can’t hold down relationships. I’ve tried.

“My longest relationship ever was four months and that only lasted that long because he lived in Brighton and I lived in Manchester.

“He was a lovely bloke but I’m just not good with the sort of amount of attention that people need.”

The Chaser was shown attempting a quiz to work out her emotional intelligence and wasn’t too surprised with the results.

“I have an emotional intelligence level of one percent,” Anne declared. “Basically, I’m a cyborg.”

The former I’m A Celebrity star has opened up about her intelligence in a previous episode, explaining how her autism makes it easier for her to remember facts.

“Intelligence is being able to figure stuff out, and being able to get my head around a new situation,” she detailed.

“It might well be argued that is something I have trouble with.

“I think I’m a better quizzer because I’m autistic. I think autism makes it easier for me to remember stuff.”

The Chaser’s Road Trip is not the first time Anne has spoken about finding love.

Reflecting on her longest romance, she explained the sex they had was “better in my head”.

“It took years of psychotherapy before I even considered dating,” she told The Sun.

“I lost weight, replaced my glasses with contact lenses and felt a lot more confident. But I find it really hard to hold down a relationship.

“I’d fancied him for years and we were together for four months.

“Even though he lived in Brighton I still felt suffocated in Manchester.

“And sex was always better in my head, I felt like I was somewhere else while it was happening.”

Anne admitted she came to realise she may never have another relationship again.

She told the publication she “can’t make it work,” adding: “I still get attracted to people but having a relationship isn’t fair on the other person.”

The Chaser’s Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
