‘Survivor’ Wins Night But Hits Fall Finale Low In Repeat Landscape
December 22, 2018In the land of repeats, the 37th Survivor finale was king Wednesday night. Survivor (1.5 rating in the 18-49 demo, 7.62 million viewers) was primetime’s top program, and also the night’s only original program among CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox and CW.
The CBS reality series came in 4% higher in viewers and 7% higher in the demo compared to last spring’s finale, which had marked an all-time low for the franchise.
But Wednesday’s finish hit new lows for a fall finale – down 21% in the demo and 12% in total viewers versus its fall 2017 wrapper.
At No. 2 for the primetime night: Survivor’s reunion special (1.0, 5.095M).
Elsewhere, all was repeat.
ABC’s animated specials Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (0.7, 3.70M) and Shrek the Halls (0.7, 3.188M), after which, ABC’s Modern Family rerun (0.6, 2.756M) dropped a tenth, while the rest of its repeat sitcoms through to 11 PM avoided significant fall-off.
CW’s second run this season of Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer (0.3, 1.08M) held steady relative to its first play.
Fox’s two repeats – Empire (0.5, 1.832M) and Star (0.4, 1.427M) – matched year-ago ratings on this night against Survivor’s finale.
NBC, meanwhile, again trotted out Pentatonix Christmas (0.5, 3.172M), Darci Lynne: Hometown Christmas (0.4, 2.695M) and Ellen’s Game Of Games holiday broadcast (0.6, 2.406M).
CBS (1.4, 7.196M) took the night, followed by ABC (0.6, 2.563M) in the demo and NBC (0.5, 2.758M) in total viewers. Fox (0.4, 1.630M) and CW (0.1, 1.00M) followed.
