BBC viewers saw Strictly Come Dancing back on their TV screens on Saturday night at long last, with the 12 celebrities and their professional dancers taking to the floor for their debut routines. One person who has soon seen himself become a favourite with fans of the long-running dance contest is Jason Bell, whose performance put a smile on the face of the judging panel as well as those watching at home. However, his partner Luba has revealed Jason needs “a lot of breaks” during training as she updated how their training was going on It Takes Two on Wednesday night.
Jason is the first NFL player to ever take part in the show and impressed across the board with his American Smooth last weekend.
And the pair ended up with a solid 16 points, with Head Judge Shirley Ballas noting his “potential” to do well in the competition
The judges praised his dance, calling it “joyful” as he injected some much-needed fun into Saturday nights.
Tonight, Jason appeared on It Takes Two alongside Luba as the pair recapped their debut routine with Zoe Ball.
Asked by the host about his nerves, he admitted: “I was extremely nervous but I had Luba, she had my back and it was so amazing.
“When I got out there, I felt the electricity – it was so amazing – a moment I’ll never forget!”
Zoe quizzed Jason on how he coped after Craig Revel Horwood made known the sportsman’s “high hopes” for his duration on the show.
He said: “You know, being a former sportsman, I’ve always had pressure. I know how to deal with that, go out and try to be in the moment.
“That’s the only thing I can control and that was a good moment,” he gushed.
Fans of the BBC show will remember Luba was paired with Olympic gold-medallist James Cracknell in 2019.
The host said: “Sportsman last year Luba with James Cracknell, are you fast becoming SCD go-to sporting coach?”
But Luba’s response surprised Zoe, admitting: “I have to say, these sportsmen seem to be very strong but they’re not.”

Zoe responded: “Really? How disappointing,” before Luba added: “He’s really weak, he needs a lot of breaks, like a lot of them!
Jason nodded at the comment, with Luba continuing: “So, I really need to push him hard, he’s doing really well, I’m joking! I hope I’m a good coach.”
And Zoe went on to ask Jason: “Is she [Luba] tough enough?”
Referring back to his NFL days, he explained why Luba’s coaching strategy was paying off.
He told Zoe: “I’ve had a lot of coaches in my life and what she is she’s caring and compassionate.
“She wants me to go out there and be successful and that’s why she pushes me,” explained Jason.
This weekend, the pair will be performing the Cha Cha Cha to Get Lucky by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams.
And with their routine looking full of promise, could they see themselves near the top of the leaderboard?
