The radio presenter’s comments came during a segment on October 18, in which 67-year-old Steve Allen made remarks about the 19-year-old Strictly Come Dancing star’s weight. TV presenter Tilly is the daughter of chef Gordon Ramsay and has been partnered in the BBC competition with professional Nikita Kuzmin. Steve’s speech saw a huge backlash from the public and other celebrities who rushed to the teenager’s defence as Tilly herself responded via social media. The host was also slapped with 840 Ofcom complaints.

During the LBC show, Steve stated: “She can’t blooming well dance. I’m bored with her already.

“She’s a chubby little thing, isn’t she? Have you noticed? Probably her dad’s cooking I should imagine.”

Tilly hit back calmy via her Instagram account, where she posted a response in view of her 1.1million followers.

She penned: “Feel free to voice your opinions however I draw the line at commenting on my appearance.

“It’s such a shame that someone is trying to make such a positive experience negative.

“This isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last comment made about my appearance and I accept that and I’m learning to accept myself.

“But please remember that words can hurt and at the end of the day I am only 19.”

Her statement was met with wide praise from fellow contestants, members of the public and other famous faces.

Former professional turned It Takes Two host Janette Manrara, commented: “#BeKind… how fast we forget what hurtful comments can do for someone’s mental health.”

The 37-year-old continued: “You are a POWERFUL young lady! Wear your crown w/ your head held high.” (sic)

Fellow contestant and Loose Women panellist Judi Love wrote: “Omggg I am fuming!!!

“How dare he come for you!! You are so beautiful, as a person with a damn gorgeous body!!!”

John Whaite penned: “He’s a piece of old sandpaper love, worn and used and has nothing to offer the world.

“And his vicious scratching has only left you polished and more fabulous. Love you.”

It was reported this week that Steve issued the youngster a “full apology”.

According to the Daily Star, a source said: “Tilly has been given a full apology by Steve.

“He wanted to make it clear that he is very sorry to have upset her.

“It was sent privately because he didn’t want it to look like it was done for publicity.”

Former Love Island star Dr Alex George, 31, penned a letter to LBC over the comments, which he shared on social media.

He wrote: “It is widely recognised just how damaging such comments about someone’s weight are and the effect they can have on an individual’s mental health.

“We must not underestimate the impact such remarks can have, feeding into the perpetual cycle of weight stigma that still exists here in the UK.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One.
