Spoilers: Corrie star reveals Nicky is 'shattered' by Daniel's betrayal

September 21, 2020

Nicky Wheatley (Kimberly Hart-Simpson) was horrified to hear Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) making derogatory comments about her in Coronation Street tonight (September 21).

Nicky bumped into Daniel, and they decided to have lunch together at his flat. As they discussed their hopes and dreams, the chemistry was aplenty.

Unable to resist, the pair ultimately slept together, and Nicky was incredibly hopeful at the prospect of them having a future.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about Nicky’s feelings, actress Kimberley Hart-Simpson said: ‘I don’t think she even knew she was developing them.

‘I think it’s just been creeping and when she’s in that moment and it happens, she’s revealing things about herself to this guy and I think she catches herself off guard, like: “I’m telling him all this stuff and this is unusual for me”.

‘We all know she’s got a child now. She’s got a little girl called Maisie. Her and her mum are probably the only people she has to talk to. She’s revealing all this stuff and I think she just looks at him and goes: “There is something there, I do like you. I don’t think I even want your money anymore and that’s really weird!”

‘I think she’s processing it herself. There wasn’t a click moment, it’s just been a slow-burner. He’s been lovely to her and also you saw the other week when she had that fight. It’s like when you can slag your family off but nobody else is allowed to.

‘The relationship has grown out of unusual circumstances. He has been paying her and she has been accepting the payment. But I think underneath it all, they are two very similar people – both lost souls and potentially looking for somebody else to, not save them, but understand them.

‘That’s where they’ve connected, for sure.’

However, in spite of their connection, there was conflict aplenty in tonight’s second episode, as — after walking a delighted Nicky to the tram station — Daniel told Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) that he had no intention of replacing Sinead (Katie McGlynn) with ‘some sex worker.’

Little did he know that Nicky had overheard the whole thing.

Kimberly told us: ‘[She’s] Absolutely gutted. There’s nothing worse. She can take people judging her, she can take it all. But she can’t take liars.

‘When she hears him saying those things about her, her whole world shatters. The one time she lets one person in, that’s what he does for her in return.

‘What’s worse is that he’s done it thinking he’s going to get away with it and no-one’s going to know. He’d have her in his arms the next night, stroking her hair, telling her how much he likes her. But she’s just walked in and seen that.

‘It’s like a lads’ group chat where they’re so lovely to you but then tell the lads all about it. It’s heartbreaking and she’s just letting him in, this is test number one – fail straight away.’

Coronation Street continues Monday September 21 at 7:30pm on ITV.
