The Duchess of Sussex’s lawyers have insisted there was no collaboration with the writers of Finding Freedom, but a bombshell statement from former communications secretary Jason Knauf contradicted the claims. Text messages between Meghan and Jason also show the Duchess of Sussex wrote a letter to her father Thomas Markle, which was later leaked to the Mail on Sunday, with the understanding it may be read by others. Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard backed Meghan during Thursday’s instalment of the ITV show.

Addressing the matter on Good Morning Britain Ben said: “Equally the understanding of this letter she wrote to her father within the knowledge that it could get leaked – that’s just her being shrewd isn’t it?

“Obviously she doesn’t want it to be leaked and she wants it to stay private with her father but of course everything is forensically seen and there’s a chance of it being leaked.

“So she was just being diligent wasn’t she?”
