February 21, 2019

In the past few months, Marina de Tavira, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the Alfonso Cuarón-directed film Roma, has met her share of A-list stars at a slew of Oscar related events. But there’s only one actress who left her speechless.

The actress, 44, sat down for PEOPLE’s Oscar Portfolio in the latest issue where she took the time to answer a few questions from editor-in-chief Jess Cagle.

During the interview, she admitted to being quite overwhelmed when meeting Cate Blanchett.

“I was crying and I don’t even remember what she said,” recalls the actress. “She was there and I couldn’t believe she was there, so I don’t remember her words.”

The actress, who plays Sofía, a mother who bonds with her housekeeper after her husband leaves the family in Roma, said she is also a big fan of Meryl Streep citing Streep’s performance in Kramer vs. Kramer as one of her favorites.

“I could watch it over and over. It really amazes me the way she portrays pain,” she says. “It’s painful but it’s powerful.”

The 91st Academy Awards take place on Feb. 24 and air live on ABC at 8 p.m.
