Riverdale series four’s filming wasn’t finished in time prior to the world going into lockdown back in March. Nevetheless, the cast and crew are currently in the middle of filming the new season which is going to premiere in January 2021. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been teasing what drama could be coming our way in the Netflix and The CW series.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale.

Is Jason Blossom still alive in Riverdale?

Riverdale first became part of our lives when series one began in 2017.

The first-ever mystery which the Core Four solved was the mystery surrounding the death of Cheryl Blossom’s (played by Madelaine Petsch) twin Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines).

Cheryl and Jason were rowing on SweetWater River but the boat was turned over and he disappeared.

Much to Cheryl’s shock, his body was found in the water and the police originally believed he had simply drowned.

But Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) knew this wasn’t the case.

After a dangerous investigation, the teens found a tape which showed it was actually Cheryl and Jason’s dad Clifford Blossom (Barclay Hope) who killed him by shooting his son and having his body dumped into the river.

This was because Jason had found out Clifford had been using the family maple syrup business as a front for his drug dealings.

Before Clifford could be punished for his crimes, he died by suicide, his body left hanging in the barn.

Despite season one being dedicated to Jason’s murder, fans are now starting to think he may not be dead after all.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased fans with a promo picture for Riverdale series five on Twitter this week.

The picture shows an arm coming up from the ground in the middle of a creepy looking forest.

Along with the picture, Aguirre-Sacasa tweeted: “Nothing stays buried forever… #Riverdale Season Five coming soon.”

Riverdale viewers are now questioning if this is referring to the return of Jason Blossom.

One fan tweeted: “Idk if this means anything but the trees could be a hint to jason. either the boat he was on crashed or washed up on shore or the trees could be the maple trees from s1 in reference to blossom maple syrup to maybe clifford? or it could be bedford.”

While another commented: “It’s gonna be something to do with Penny, Hal, Jason or someone completely irrelevant.”

But not everyone is happy with the idea of bringing Jason back from the dead.

A Riverdale fan said: “Omg let Jason stay buried this once”, and a second added: “Help is this Jason related again?

“I thought we were done with that after his literal/viking funeral?”

If Aguirre-Sacasa isn’t referring to Jason, another outrageous possibility could be Hal Cooper (Lochlyn Munro), also known as the Black Hood.

The Core Four did see him get shot by Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt) but knowing Riverdale, the writers could somehow find a way which meant he survived the murder and had been in hiding all this time.

Fans won’t have to wait too much longer until the teen drama returns to our screens.

Riverdale season five will begin on Wednesday, January 20, on The CW for those in America.

Typically, the drama is then released for worldwide fans the day after on Netflix.

If this does continue for series five, then fans across the world can expect series five to begin on Netflix on Thursday, January 21, 2021.

Riverdale is available to watch on Netflix.
