Question of Sport presenter Paddy McGuinness welcomed four new guests onto the BBC show on Friday alongside team captains Sam Quek and Ugo Monye. Alex Yee and Katharine Merry joined the latter’s team while Laura Collett and Eddie Hearn were with the Olympic hockey champion. However, BBC viewers were left baffled by the boxing promoter’s appearance.
The sports quiz show appeared to be Olympic themed on Friday as the teams included four medal winners.
Former spinner Katharine won the bronze medal in the 400 metres in Sydney in 2000 while teammate Alex Yee won silver in the Men’s Triathlon and gold in the Triathlon Mixed Relay at Tokyo.
Laura won gold in the Equestrian team event and team captain Sam won gold as part of the British hockey team at the 2016 Olympics.
British sports promoter Eddie was the only team player not to be a sportsman and viewers questioned his inclusion on the show.
@The_TrickyTree tweeted: “Eddie Hearn? Wtf are you doing Question of Sport?”
“@QuestionofSport Why is Eddie Hearn on QoS?” @DanlucB asked.
@WildState stated: “I have no crow to pluck with Eddie Hearn, but his appearing on tonight’s edition is another nail in the coffin of the once-mighty ‘A Question of Sport’ programme.”
However, @randomgrubber disagreed: “Really don’t like the new #questionofsport but Eddie Hearn is currently bringing some life to the show.”
