He teased: “The main destination is the end of the whole thing, which is the start of the Second World War.

“And I know what scene that is going to be, I know how it’s going to end.

“I just want it to be a family between the wars – it starts at the end of the first and ends at the beginning of the second.”

However, one thing he has not revealed is what the fates of the characters will be when it finally concludes.

Some viewers are convinced there will be some heartbreaking deaths on the horizon for the Shelby family.

Posting on Reddit, one fan started a conversation asking what the biggest ending theories were among users.

Msummerse asked: “I was just curious, how would you like this show to actually end and what ending would make you most upset?”

In reply, several fans predicted many of the main characters would be in danger.

Fan Pbc120 replied: “Charlie and perhaps Finn will go off to fight in World War Two.

“Tommy will come to some sort of redemption but in the end the whole family (maybe except for Ada) will die in the bombings.

“And Tommy would finally be at peace so I guess I can live with it as long as he dies right at the end of the last episode of the series.”

While another user was sure it was Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) who was in the biggest danger.

Diablo516 added: “Tommy has to die, full stop. No happy ending for him.

“I’d like to see Arthur and Linda have a happy ending, but I doubt that will happen.”

A third named Thicc_sherlocc also weighed in with a worrying prediction for Tommy.
