Owner of 'world's heaviest potato' upset to discover it's not actually a potato

Last year, Dug the Spud took the vegetable world by storm when it was claimed to be the biggest potato in the world, weighing in at a hefty 17 pounds.

However, the spud’s owner, Colin Craig-Brown, has since had his record-breaking dreams dashed after learning that Dug isn’t a potato at all but is believed to be a hybrid of a cucumber and a gourd.

On Tuesday’s This Morning, Colin tuned in from New Zealand to speak to Phillip Schofield and Josie Gibson, sharing his disappointment over the new discovery about his precious Dug – who was placed by his side, decked out with sunglasses.

‘It was a bit of a deflation to find out he wasn’t a potato,’ Colin admitted, despite appearing in good spirits.

‘But as you walk along through life, these s**ty sandwiches, someone chucks them in your lunchbox,’ he added, forcing Phillip to issue a swift apology to viewers for the swear word.

Josie then asked Colin whether he planned on turning Dug into vodka, considering This Morning had a vodka segment coming up later on the programme.

‘I did plan to turn him into vodka, but it’d be a bit like barbecuing your pet lamb. Just couldn’t do that!’ he exclaimed, clearly feeling extremely connected to his world-famous veg.

Several people watching This Morning were left mind-boggled by the segment, expressing their utter bemusement over Colin’s attachment to Dug and the fact that he was treating it like a person.

‘What on earth?! Am I still asleep?!’ one person asked.

‘If you’re just tuning in… No that isn’t a great big s**t wearing sunglasses,’ another quipped.

Nonetheless, no one can deny that Dug is still bringing joy to the masses.
