Music producer Naughty Boy, whose real name is Shahid Khan, has worked with some of the biggest names in pop, including Beyonce and Sam Smith, but he is appearing on I’m A Celebrity to give millions of viewers the chance to get to know him. Ahead of entering the camp, the 36-year-old opened up on the difficulty of leaving his beloved mum who has dementia to go on the ITV show. He said she “hasn’t been very well” and it will be hard to be away from her.
Naughty Boy has spoken openly in the past about caring for his mum who suffers from dementia and said he wants to use his time on I’m A Celebrity to raise awareness about the illness.
He explained: “I think it is important for people like myself to create awareness about it.
“Dementia UK needs constant funding, and I am going to miss mum the most whilst I am away in the castle.
“I live with Mum, and I am used to seeing her all the time.”
The music producer has been caring for his mum for several years since she was diagnosed with the debilitating condition.
Earlier this year he revealed his mum’s deteriorating health was behind his decision to step away from music for a few years.
He explained: “Mum hasn’t been very well, and it is going to be difficult for me being away.
“But that said, I think the break will be good for both of us.”
Naughty Boy will be joining his fellow celebrity campmates in a freezing Welsh castle as they take part in Bushtucker Trials and challenges while living on rations.
Reflecting further about taking on the gruelling Welsh castle experience, the star explained: “I am most looking forward to learning about myself.
“I don’t know what people in the music industry will think about me being in the castle but having a break from everything is something I think everyone should have and do once a year.
“I love my friends and family, but I think it is good to have a break and time out.”
I’m A Celebrity wouldn’t be the show it is today without an abundance of bugs, snakes and rats terrifying contestants.
Luckily Naughty Boy said he is not scared of spiders because they make “beautiful webs”, but the producer admitted he isn’t good in confined spaces.
He added: “I am scared of heights too, nothing in the castle is likeable though! But I am looking forward to taking part in the trials only because if we get the stars, it is good for everyone.
“I am looking forward to doing something heroic for everyone in the camp.”
Despite wanting to step in and be heroic, the star said he could also see himself crowned the next King of the Castle.
“Whilst I want to be a good team player, I would not mind winning,” he quipped.
“I would never expect that [to win] and it would be an achievement for me.”
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! lands on ITV on Sunday at 9pm.
