Brian May, 74, appeared on Lorraine to discuss his new solo album, which relaunched on Friday. The Queen star opened up on how the knowledge of his former band mate and singing legend Freddie Mercury was dying affected him and how the launch of his solo career helped him push through the dark time.

Speaking to Christine Lampard, who had stepped in for Lorraine Kelly, Brian explained it was a “horrendous” time of his life.

“It was a very emotional experience writing the album for the first time around Brian,” Christine, 42, said.

“What are your memories of that time 30 years ago?”

Brian replied: “It was kind of chaotic really. We were doing very well, I suppose as musicians, but my life was falling to pieces all over the place.”

He explained: “First of all with losing Freddie, we knew we’re losing Freddie, some time during that period.”
