Amazon Prime Video dropped Mirzapur season two in 2020 – almost two years after the first outing. Interestingly, Mirzapur initially received a mixed reception in 2018, however, audiences have fallen in love with the show. Express.co.uk has the lowdown on the season two finale titled King of Mirzapur.
WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Mirzapur seasons 1 & 2
What happened at the end of Mirzapur season 2?
Beena killed Bauji
As to be expected, the body count was high in the season two finale starting with the death of Tripathi patriarch Bauji (played by Kulbhushan Kharbanda), who was killed by his daughter-in-law Beena (Rasika Dugal).
The Tripathis’ trusted henchman Maqbool Khan (Shaji Chaudhary) took revenge on Bauji after Munna Tripathi (Divyendu Sharma) murdered members of his family including his mother and nephew Babar Khan (Aasif Khan).
But in a turn of events, Beena witnessed Maqbool attacking Bauji and asked if she could finish off the job in revenge for being blackmailed into have sex with him.
Just as she was about to kill Bauji, Radhiya (Prashansa Sharma) appeared from another room and gave a huge meat cleaver to Beena, telling her the death would be slower this way.
Radhiya, too, had been coerced by Bauji into sleeping with him and wanted retribution.
Maqbool took the fall for the killing and fled from Mirzapur with everyone believing he was the killer rather than the women. He fled from the Tripathi mansion, going underground with a possible return anticipated in season three.
Although Bauji may have been killed off, his funeral served as the location for the big showdown at the end of the series where many things went down.
Junior is killed
Golu Gupta (Shweta Tripathi) ended things with her sometimes lover Shatrughan “Junior” Tyagi (Vijay Varma) as she headed to Mirzapur to take out the Tripathis.
Junior’s father Dadda Tyagi (Lilliput) discovered the younger of his twin sons had gone behind his back and was dealing opium, which had brought in some big cash.
Nonetheless, Dadda was furious at the betrayal and summoned both of his sons before him to explain what had happened.
He also tried to get Junior to shoot his uncle dead to prove his loyalty to the family, but things went awry and resulted in a fatal shootout.
Although the uncle ended up dead, so too did Junior while his twin brother Bharat “Senior” Tyagi (also Varma) mourned his sibling.
Dadda and Senior may want to take revenge on Golu and hold her responsible for Junior’s demise – despite the situation being of his own making.
Munna was killed
However, the biggest moment came right at the end of the finale when Guddu (Ali Fazal) finally took his revenge against Munna for killing his brother Bablu (Vikrant Massey) in season one.
With the help of Golu, Guddu managed to get to the Tripathis and shot Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) several times, leaving him for dead.
Guddu then set his sights on Munna and shot him dead in a moment mirroring the brutal manner the gangster’s son had murdered Bablu.
Interestingly, his death was teased right at the start of the series but also in the title credits.
Beena and Guddu had previously struck a deal in which he would be the King of Mirzapur until her infant son came of age and then step aside.
She had informed Guddu the Tripathis were weak and to strike now, which led him to turn up at Bauji’s funeral to attack Munna and Kaleen Bhaiya.
Sharad kidnapped Kaleen
Although it looked like Kaleen was now dead, at the last-minute it was revealed the toppled King of Mirzapur was clinging on to dear life despite multiple gunshot wounds.
In the confusion, he was kidnapped by Sharad Shukla (Anjum Sharma) – the son of dead kingpin Rati Shankar (Shubrajyoti Bharat) who had been the Bahubali of Jaunpur and deadly rival to Kaleen.
Sharad had been out for revenge against the Tripathis after Guddu and Bablu had killed his father in season one.
While it looked like there was some justice, his abduction of Kaleen suggested he had other plans.
Guddu became the King of Mirzapur
The final scene of season two saw Guddu taking to the empty throne of Mirzapur and becoming king.
He seemed to think Kaleen was now dead and both he and Golu appeared to be at peace with their loved ones avenged.
Should the show return for season three, fans will see the status quo shifting once more with this false sense of security likely to be shattered.
If anything, Sharad could be the one ending up taking power now he has Kaleen in his clutches.
There are also questions about the real identity of Robin (Priyanshu Painyuli) and whether he could be a key player.
Fans also want to know if there will be a Mirzapur season four but for now the focus is on the third outing.
