Louise Minchin declines Dan Walker’s BBC Breakfast job offer following exitApril 27, 2022
Dan Walker didn’t waste any time in offering Louise Minchin a job on BBC Breakfast as she returned to the red sofa this morning for the first time since her exit last September.
Louise quit the show after 20 years at the helm and her former colleague is also due to leave the programme to take on the flagship news bulletin for Channel 5, having announced his departure earlier this month.
After chatting to Louise about the national shortage of HRT, Dan made a play to get her back at the Beeb for good.
‘There might be a vacancy in a little bit if you fancy it?’ he asked.
But Sally politely declined the invitation. ‘I love working with Sally [Nugent],’ she replied.
‘It’s the hours. Already getting up for 6am this morning was trying enough, but thanks Dan.’
Giving up on his mission, Dan responded: ‘It’s great to have you back.’
Louise announced her return to the BBC Breakfast sofa on social media, telling her followers: ‘Good morning, I am on my way to @BBCBreakfast to talk about the #HRTshortages, have you had issues getting supplies and how does that make you feel?? On the telly at about 0810.’
Dan, who was Louise’s co-star for her last five years on the programme, responded: ‘Good morning Louise. See you soon.’
During her final broadcast last year, Louise said that Dan was the reason she had stayed on the programme ‘much longer than I actually meant to’.
During her tenure on BBC Breakfast, Louise covered a number of major global news stories including general elections, Brexit, the coronavirus pandemic and terror attacks.
She has also interviewed famous faces including the Duchess of Cambridge, singer Billie Eilish and naturalist Sir David Attenborough.
In 2019, she hosted the Wake Up To Menopause campaign after revealing that she suffered hot flushes while presenting live TV.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
