Ranvir Singh had to apologise to viewers on Monday's episode (August 21) of Lorraine after a 'psychic' parrot wrongly predicted the result of the Women's World Cup final.

Last Friday (18 August), Larry the parrot, who had consistently forecasted the outcomes of all the results in the FIFA Women's World Cup, picked England to beat Spain in the final on Sunday (20 August).

But Spain ended up beating the Lionesses 1-0, despite a stunning penalty save from goalkeeper Mary Earps.

It meant guest host Ranvir extended an on-air apology for Larry’s inaccurate prediction, jokingly explaining that the parrot's future is in trouble and tha his “career is over”.

Ranvir opened the morning show saying: “We do have to start today's show with an apology, Larry, our psychic parrot, got it spectacularly wrong on Friday

“Larry, he predicted that England would win the World Cup final… he's on the phone to his lawyers right now as we speak.

“His career is over, I'm afraid, Larry, you're a liar – that's all we've got to say!”

In the Friday segment, Ranvir quipped that the exotic bird experienced a case of "stage fright," leading to a bit of studio commotion as it chose not to participate in the show.

Two professional animal workers showcased food items adorned with flags representing both teams taking part in last Sunday’s final, and Larry chose the hand which represented England.

Larry’s poor prediction may have come as a result of TV star Jake Quickenden, who was present on the segment, attempting to help out during the chaos.

Ranvir explained that Jake had been “literally feeding” the parrot as he took the food cup with the English flag on, leaving viewers with the belief that the Lionesses could have brought it home.

Despite the overwhelming support shown for the World Cup finalists, the loss has already taken a toll on some of the players.
