Lorraine Kelly accidentally 'confirms' Maisie Smith for Strictly

September 3, 2020

Lorraine Kelly has accidentally let loose that EastEnders star Maisie Smith has signed up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The Scottish host had just interviewed Maisie’s co-star James Bye on her programme today when she proceeded to ask what he thought of the actress’s decision to sign up to the BBC competition and whether he’d be tempted.

‘Good luck to Maisie, she’s amazing,’ James said, appearing to confirm the news.

Lorraine then backtracked seconds later and insisted the bombshell was just a rumour.

Viewers were in pieces over Lorraine’s leak and took to Twitter to comment on the scenes.

‘I’m laughing, Lorraine just said Maisie Smith is signed for Strictly but then covered it up by saying it’s a rumour ahhh did she just leak it or?’ penned one.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘Wait Lorraine just revealed Maisie from EE before she’s been officially announced.’

Besides the accidental slip up, Lorraine did confirm that TV presenter JJ Chalmers has officially bagged a spot.

‘This is completely off the chart, and so it’s going to be a huge challenge for me,’ he told her. ‘I’m really looking forward to learning something new.’

Asked if he thought Invictus Games founder Prince Harry would be watching him on Strictly, JJ continued: ‘I don’t know how that works, I don’t know if they get it in LA.’

So far, eight celebrities have been announced for this year’s Strictly, including BBC Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo and comedian Bill Bailey.

Nicola Adams is set to make history on the show as she’s set to compete in its first-ever same-sex couple.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV and Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to BBC One in the autumn.
