Jamie Oliver takes aim at fellow egotistical chefs as he brands them 'out of control'

December 5, 2021

JAMIE OLIVER has turned up the heat on his fellow chefs with a sizzling attack.

The Naked Chef has slated other big-name cooks for caring more about their ego than normal folk being able to follow their recipes.

And he says the job of celebrity chefs is to be like a “sat-nav” for home cooks.

He ranted: “As a man and a chef you have got to have a massive scrap with your ego and look at how many chefs’ books are rubbish. It is because they cannot get out of the restaurant, out of control and ego.

"For me, you have to beat that person up and throw them to the side.

“My audience is very mainstream. My job is to be clear. You do your job and break it down into chapters that are logical and useful.”

‘I’m like a sat-nav’

Jamie has written 30 cookery books in his career since bursting on to the scene in 1999. He will be on telly over the festive period with Keep Cooking At Christmas.

So you could say he knows his onions. Jamie went on: “I’ve been lucky enough to have experiences with authors where I have seen complaint letters coming in, saying they’d spent 50 bucks and it didn’t work. And you look at the recipe and it was badly written.

“My job in a recipe is to be like a sat-nav, to get you from A to Z in the most linear line possible. There are two things that are important. One, you finish it and, two, that it is delicious.

“If I cannot do either of those, you might not ever cook again.” Now that’s what I call a roast.

DANI PLAYS IT COOL

SHE hit the big time wearing skimpy swimwear in the Love Island villa.

But Dani Dyer needed a few more layers for her latest telly job.

The new mum has just finished filming for Channel 4’s festive extravaganza The Greatest Snowman.

Hosted by Sue Perkins, the show sees a troop of celebrities battling it out to build the best ice sculptures and, you guessed it, snowmen.

I told last week that interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Bake Off: The Professionals’ Liam Charles and presenter Cherry Healy would join comedian Johnny Vegas on the show.

Doctor Douglas

OLLY ALEXANDER has backed his It’s A Sin co-star Omari Douglas to be the next Doctor Who.

He said: “I’m definitely backing Omari Douglas. I think the Doctor’s quite queer anyway – that’s my take on the character – so it would really make sense for a queer actor to take the role.”

NO GUILT FOR MUM HELEN

SHE’S eight months pregnant with her third child, but Helen Skelton has not stopped working.

The presenter couldn’t resist being part of Channel 5’s Winter On The Farm – but she says she’s sick of being asked about her “mum guilt”.

Already mum to Ernie, six and Louis, four, she said: “It is always about work. We give ourselves such a hard time. I don’t know when we fell into the habit of beating ourselves up for working and spending time away from the kids.

“It’s good for your mental health to be away from the kids sometimes. You shouldn’t be made to feel guilty about that.

“Sometimes I am working away and other times I am constantly at home and I think both of those things come with a bucket full of guilt.”

Watch the first episode tonight at 8pm on C5.

MORNING MARVIN’S ON MOVE

MARVIN HUMES and wife Rochelle have become firm faves with This Morning fans.

But the couple will no longer cover holiday shifts together, as Marvin has revealed he’s handed in his notice.

The JLS star said: “Rochelle is doing so well on This Morning. I now feel that’s her home now. I decided a while ago that I wasn’t going to be on This Morning any more. We love working together so who knows.”

The exit comes as Rochelle follows fellow This Morning host Holly Willoughby by quitting big showbiz agency YMU to set up her own firm. And with Eamonn Holmes having recently left This Morning, the ex-Saturdays singer has been tipped as the future of the daytime show.

Marvin went on: “Eamonn is one of the best presenters in the country and he’ll continue to have an incredible career. He’s become a good friend from working with Rochelle.”

C4 WON’T GET SHOT OF JON

OUTGOING Channel 4 news anchor Jon Snow says there is no chance of him joining rival network GB News as he is still under contract.

He told Radio Times: “I’m still on the books of Channel 4. If I was tempted to join GB News, it would, unfortunately, be legally impossible.”

Jon’s will step down as presenter of the station’s news coverage at the end of the year, having fronted it since 1989. Asked why he was leaving, he said: “I’m 74 and I’m beginning to show it. You don’t want to look craggy on air.

“So, it’s time I was assassinated.” If that’s meant to be a joke, I’m not sure anyone is laughing.

LOVE ISLE – A LOAD OF TRIPE?

IT’S KNOWN for giving singletons their type on paper, but now Love Island might give them their tripe on paper, too.

According to a new filing at the Intellectual Property Office, ITV bosses have applied to trademark the show’s name for a range of items. And one of them is “meat and meat products” – along with booze, fruit drinks and even eggs.

A source said: “When people refer to Love Island being ITV’s cash cow, I don’t think this is what they meant.

“When something becomes as big as Love Island, they’ll always try to protect it in case someone else tries to make a quick buck out of something they shouldn’t.”

Joe, the Travel Man

JOE LYCETT is finally taking over the reins of Travel Man on C4, two years after being announced as Richard Ayoade's replacement.

Joe said: “Some bits and bobs got in the way. Well finally, we’re off!” Joe also announced there would be a special guest star for the Christmas special.
