Next year Indiana Jones continues its legendary story with the as-of-yet untitled fifth movie and a brand new host of characters. On top of Harrison Ford and Karen Allen returning as Indy and Marion Ravenwood respectively, the film will introduce screenwriter and Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a mysterious new character. Joining her is former James Bond and Marvel villain, Mads.
The announcement of Mads’ involvement in the film came earlier this month and the star himself has given some insight into joining the series.
Speaking to Collider, the Danish actor said: “I’m very, very excited about it.
“I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day. It is so well done and so charming, and it’s such great storytelling. So yes, it’s a great honour to be part of that franchise that I grew up with.”
He then gave his first reaction to the upcoming film’s script.
At the moment, Indiana Jones 5’s plot, title, and events have been kept entirely under wraps.
Mads broke this silence for the first time, revealing: “I’m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before.
“And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great.”
The 55-year-old then gave some further insight into what his character will be like.

Mads teased: “I do think I’m invited in to create a character – I think that everybody wants that.
“That’s why they pick certain actors that they think can come up with certain things, and it will be a collaboration as it always is.
“Interesting enough, again a little like [his new film] Riders of Justice, there is kind of a genre mix in Indiana Jones always.
“There is something that is a little larger-than-life, almost back to the ’30s with a [director] Peter Lorre kind of feel, and then you have Indiana Jones who kind of is a straight man.”
Musing further about Indy, Mads said: “He does produce a lot of funny and interesting things, but there are different character genres in some of those films.”
Mads has previously played villains in various franchises, including Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Hannibal and Le Chiffre in James Bond Casino Royale.
However, there is no telling whether he will continue to be a bad guy in the upcoming Indy film.
One thing is for sure: This is Indiana Jones’ final movie with Harrison playing the role.
Previously the actor confirmed Indiana Jones 5 would be his final foray as the legendary archaeologist.
Years prior, Spielberg suggested the next whip-cracking adventurer could be a woman.
With Phoebe now in the series, could she be the next hero to stay on as the finder of lost artefacts?
Indiana Jones 5 is due for release on July 28, 2022.
