The caring 40-year-old has installed Perspex screens over the TVs and boarded up the windows after the 16-year-old caused £7,000 worth of damage by “smashing things up”.

Harvey, who has Prader-Willi Syndrome, is partially sighted and also struggles with septo-optic dysplasia, which affects his growth, has to be watched at all times to protect by himself and the home.

The mum-of-five opened up about the struggles of caring for him during a candid interview on  Victoria Derbyshire's BBC Two show yesterday – admitting she was considering putting Harvey into a residential care facility after he smashed up eight iPads.

An insider said: “Harvey has smashed pretty much every window in the house and has caused £7k damage.

“The windows now just get covered with cardboard when he breaks down because it’s too difficult to constantly replace them.

“Katie has to lock her eldest son out of the kitchen because he’s prone to smashing up the plates, glasses and anything else that is breakable in there.

“If he goes into a rage, chances are he will smash things up, so for his own safety he’s locked out.

“Most things around the house are now fixed to the wall so he can’t grab it, but things like iPads have to get locked away.

“He recently smashed the bathroom mirror, which was a worry for everyone and has made Katie even more vigilant about keeping an eye on him.”

In the past Katie revealed that Harvey managed to crack the glass screen on the TV by head butting it, which means that the TVs are now all covered with Perspex to protect them.

Speaking on Victoria Derbyshire show yesterday, Katie said she felt she didn't get any "respite" from her son.

She said: "This year he's smashed eight iPads. For the first time ever I'm thinking he might have to go residential Monday to Friday.

"I'm really having to think about it but I hate it because he's my life. The kids can be scared as he's big so I have to think of  them.

"He's missing out on his education, he knows if he kicks off in the morning the driver won't take him to school. So he's sussed that out and he wants to spend all his time with me.

"I haven't got a carer. I hate it because he's my life. I've never had respite.

"I'm literally on my own and it can be lonely, I don't know any of the other parents. If anyone can give me advice or help."

The star is also mum to 13, Princess, 11, from her marriage to Peter Andre, Jett, five and Bunny, four, from her marriage to Kieran Hayler and Harvey, whose dad is Dwight Yorke.
