House goes on sale for £25,000 and it's one of the cheapest on ZooplaJanuary 17, 2021
Yesterday we took a look around a house in Chilton, County Durham, on sale for £29,500 and thought to be one of the lowest priced properties in the UK.
But now there’s an even cheaper one on the market.
For £25,000 – a tenth of the average property price in the UK – you could get a two-bed semi-detached house in Grangetown, Middlesborough.
While the property is in need of some serious renovation, it could be a good chance to add some value.
The description on Zoopla says: ‘Located on the edge of The North York Moors National Park and a five minute drive to Redcar seafront and sandy beach.
‘The property is well situated for good local schools, shops, bus routes and commuting throughout Teesside and beyond. The property offers two good sized bedrooms, bathroom, lounge and kitchen diner with an extension providing an extra versatile room. The property is deceptively spacious, and viewing is highly recommended.’
It does include double glazing, gas central heating, off-road parking and good sized front and rear gardens.
Inside, you’ll find a lounge, kitchen diner, utility room, one double and one single bedroom and a bathroom.
Buyers can expect to spend some time ripping out wooden panelling, refitting a kitchen and bathroom and modernising the property.
The cheapest house on Zoopla was judged by excluding those in the Help to Buy and shared ownership schemes, as well as leasehold properties.
There may also be cheaper flats or maisonettes and it’s not the cheapest house on the site in recent times – one was sold for £1 in 2019 – but it is one of the least expensive on the market right now.
Property prices are much lower in Grangetown than elsewhere in the UK – the average semi-detached property sells for £66,086, compared to £228,890 across the UK.
