Gillian Anderson Shares Hilarious BTS Photos from The Crown for Olivia Colman's BirthdayJanuary 30, 2021
It's Olivia Colman's birthday, and her The Crown costar Gillian Anderson is marking the occasion with some hilarious photos of the pair.
Anderson played British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the Netflix hit's fourth season, opposite Colman's portrayal of Queen Elizabeth. Behind the scenes, however, the actresses were all fun and games.
"Happy birthday Queenie 🎂," Anderson captioned a series of photos on Instagram in honor of Colman turning 47 on Saturday.
The photos she posted alongside the birthday wishes included a selfie of the two making silly faces, another of them eating in an on-set trailer and a third of Colman scowling at the camera in costume as the Queen.
Earlier this week, Anderson appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers and shared some more behind the scenes details from The Crown — including how Colman convinced the cast to perform a dance to Lizzo's "Good As Hell" between scenes.
"Olivia apparently does a dance class in the area that she lives with a bunch of friends on a regular basis, and the last time she did the class, they had danced to that Lizzo song," Anderson recalled. "She asked if we would happen to be interested in maybe doing it, and she would video it."
However, Colman told the cast — including Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret), Josh O'Connor (Prince Charles), Erin Doherty (Princess Anne) and Marion Bailey (the Queen Mother) — that she would only show the video to her fellow dancers.
"So it was never meant to see the light of day," Anderson explained.
"And yet, here we are," said Meyers before playing the clip of the actors (in costume for a funeral scene!) showing off their dance moves — and letting out a gleeful "whee" as they slide across the floor in the final move.
"It's really good," Meyers said. "You guys are really good."
"So humiliating," Anderson replied.
