From pricey Woolpack meals to £50 B&B – here’s how much it costs to live in Emmerdale

From pricey Woolpack meals to £50 B&B – here’s how much it costs to live in Emmerdale

April 12, 2022

Emmerdale has had its fair share of drama over the years from pub explosions, serial killers and even hostage situations but one thing fans don't get to see is the cost of living.

Only recently, it's been alluded on the ITV soap how expensive it is to buy a property in the idyllic Yorkshire village after Laurel Thomas struggled to afford another home when Kim Tate put Mulberry Cottage on the market.

But how much exactly does it cost to live in Emmerdale? OK! recently got the opportunity to visit The Emmerdale Village Tour, which is open to all superfans on select dates, where we were able to find out the prices in the village.

Eric Pollard's Bed & Breakfast

First up is Eric Pollard's Bed & Breakfast, otherwise known as The Grange, where it costs £50 a night to stay in the idyllic location — not bad considering that includes your breakfast.

However, guests must be warned that your neighbours may include murderer Meena Jutla and in the past Noah Dingle has been caught snooping in the drawers!

Hide Food

Hide Food, also known as "bistro at the hop", offers villagers wood-fired pizza, a selection of hot drinks and even sweet treats.

But with a pizza costing £13.95 and a salted caramel brownie £4.95, this jaunt may be better for the Kim Tates of the village.

Also, guests must be warned that you may have a side of murder with your food as Meena has been known to kill at the spot (RIP Ben Tucker!)

So how much is the menu in full?

  • Pizzas range from £6.45 to a whopping £13.95 (although this does include truffle and forest mushrooms — so we'll let them off!)
  • Hot drinks range rom £2.95 to £3.50 with the menu offering everything from a latte to masala chai tea (yum!)
  • Sweet treats range from £4.95 to £5.95 with desserts including gluten-free salted caramel brownies, chocolate cake and pastéis de nata (we'll take three!)

The Woolpack

Soap fans will know that The Woolpack has recently undergone a gorgeous new makeover after Charity Dingle and Ryan Stocks took over earlier this year.

But thankfully the fancy transformation hasn't impacted the pub food prices as it offers options from as little as £3.95, although some items go right up to a whopping £17.50.

OK! particularly enjoyed the fact that the menu made a nod at several of the villagers, including Marlon Dingle and the Barton family.

So what can you eat at The Woolpack and how much would it cost?

  • Starters include: Soup of the day £3.95, Barton's black pudding £5.50, giant Yorkshire pudding £3.95 and Kilnsey smoked sea trout £5.95.
  • Mains include: Whitby cod and chips £10.95, breaded plaice and chips £11.95, shortcrust triple cheese pie £10.95, Barton's famous pork bangers and mash £9.95, Yorkshire supper £11.50, Ryedale lamb and kidney suet pudding £14.95, Barton's 21 day matured rump steak £17.50 and Marlon's gourmet burger £11.95.
  • Puddings include: We didn't see a pudding menu but we'd probably head over to Café Main Street for a coffee, gossip and slice of cake!

Barton and Dingle Automotives

Living in the village means you're reliant on a car — unless you fancy waiting at the Hotten Road Bus Stop to take you to the location (we didn't see one bus come by!).

But with owner Cain Dingle known for his bad boy past, are you getting a bargain or being ripped off?

OK! only saw one car for sale, which was a silver SEAT estate, costing £3,595.

David's Shop

The upmarket farmer's shop is a favourite amongst the villages to get their pint of milk or tasty goods.

OK! sadly didn't see any prices in the shop but we were impressed with the selection of plants on offer, gifts and even a deli counter.

Café Main Street

You can't come to Emmerdale without stopping for a hot drink, cake and gossip at Café Main Street.

Again, OK! didn't see prices for the goods on offer but we were impressed by the selection of cakes in the window, including tarts, cheesecake and Black Forest gateau.

However, guests must be warned not to have top secret conversations here as owner Brenda Walker is known for eavesdropping!
