EXCLUSIVE: Fries!, a documentary about the globe’s obsession with the fried potato, has currently started filming from the Emmy-winning production company behind Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Zero Point Zero (ZPZ).

Emmy and James Beard Award-winner Michael Steed (photo above), is directing the non-fiction title which will cover the variety of fries in various countries and the food’s untold stories from well-known chefs, celebrities, food scientists, and farmers.

Sir Kensington’s, Unilever’s premium brand of all-natural condiments that celebrates ordinary and overlooked foods, is financing the documentary. Kelly Mullen and Giles Morrison will serve as EPs on behalf of Sir Kensington’s and Unilever Entertainment. Zero Point Zero co-founders Lydia Tenaglia and Chris Collins will also executive produce.

Tenaglia says, “In over 17 years of traveling the world filming food, we have always been drawn to the connective tissue that brings people together. No other food bridges borders, language, and taste more than the humble but delicious fry.” Adding on, she remarks, “The opportunity to partner with the Sir Kensington’s team to explore this simple yet universally loved food is core to our company’s mission: to inspire action that connects humanity. From three Michelin star kitchens in Manhattan or Paris to street carts in Lima, you can always find a savory fry.”

Steed has served as director since the inception of  Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. He’s also the creator and EP of the PBS award-winning documentary series The Mind of a Chef, which recently wrapped its sixth season and was named ‘The Best Show on Television’ by The New Republic. Steed’s credits also include the long-running series The First 48 and Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.
