First Dates fans blown away as bartender Merlin unveils model transformation

November 12, 2019

Tonight saw the ever popular First Dates return to Channel 4 for a new series, though there was a surprise in store before the dates could kick off.

Bartender Merlin Griffiths gathered the other show staff around to show them something from his past.

He told the younger team members: "Just about when you were born, believe it or not, I used to do a bit of modelling on the side."

Soon enough, the 41-year-old pulled out a crumpled poster featuring a much younger man – and it was actually him.

He continued: "This has survived 25 years. I can't believe it's still vaguely intact."

His co-stars were gobsmacked, with one explaining that he's "still got it" now, all these years later.

And viewers at home were just as shocked, taking to Twitter in their droves to comment on Merlin and his model looks.

One said: "Get you Merlin, hot stuff," alongside a flame emoji.

Someone else noted: "Merlin had curls?"

A third viewer, who was in disbelief, wrote: "No way! Merlin!"

As the episode went on, viewers were introduced to hopeful singletons looking for love in the famous telly restaurant.

In fact, even Jess brought up his likeness, with him explaining he'd been compared to him ever since Gavin and Stacey.

He went on to say that his friends keep revoking his plus one invites to weddings due to his single status.
