Emmerdale's Paige Sandhu reveals why Meena's story must end

April 5, 2022

Paige Sandhu has explained why her evil character’s story must come to an end in Emmerdale.

The actress plays supervillain Meena Jutla, who is due to stand trial next week for a list of crimes even longer than your arm. Fans have been eagerly awaiting her comeuppance, and the ITV soap has planned some truly tense scenes for Meena’s big finale.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other media, Paige was asked if she thinks Meena going to prison would be a fitting end – if indeed that’s what happens! ‘Yeah, I do actually,’ she said.

The star added that she knew there had to be a shelf-life for her shameless alter ego. ‘I always thought that Meena’s storyline was going to have to come to an end at some point, because you just can’t let a villain as bad as Meena just carry on.’

‘There would be no-one left in the village, so her storyline has to come to an end at some point.’

Indeed, Meena’s impact has already affected most of the village. Over the past year, she has claimed the lives of teenager Leanna Cavanagh (Mimi Slinger), Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) and Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon).

Meena also held Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) and her sister Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) captive and came close to killing them.

It wasn’t until she kidnapped Dawn and Billy Fletcher (Olivia Bromley and Jay Kontzle) and shot Leyla Cavanagh (Roxy Shahidi) that Meena was finally arrested – helped along by the fact that Liam (Jonny McPherson) pushed her over the bridge and stopped her in her tracks.

As she contemplated her final scenes on Emmerdale, Paige also discussed her own personal vision for her exit.

‘When I thought about how the writers were going to do that, I thought she has to die because it’s the most epic thing. I just imagined that was what they were going to do.’

However, her thought process changed as soon as she read the scripts for Meena’s murder trial.

‘But when I found out the storyline that they’ve written, I was like “Ooh this is actually way better than I could have imagined”.’

With a ringing endorsement from the woman behind manipulative Meena, fans are sure to be in for a treat as the stage is set for a dramatic week. You’ll just have to tune in to find out exactly how the trial unfolds.
