Kirin Kotecha (played by Rish Shah) hasn’t been seen in Emmerdale since 2016 where he fled the village after killing Tess Harris (Nicola Stephenson) in a hit-and-run. In recent weeks, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has been trying to get hold of Kirin and when he finally makes a shock appearance he’ll demand money for his approval of Johnny’s adoption. But, will the Dingle matriarch be horrified by his true intentions?
Speaking to the press including Express.co.uk, Emmerdale newcomer Rish explained why Kirin is returning to the village.
He said: “I think initially Kirin is entirely tunnel-visioned on getting the money and getting away as quickly as possible.
“Obviously he can’t be seen in the village, he knows that, so Johnny seems to be more of an after-thought for Kirin.
“Unfortunately, after all of that, he doesn’t get to see him,” the actor added.

Rish was asked how Kirin will cope with Vanessa Woodfied’s (Michelle Hardwick) cancer diagnosis and said: “I feel like with Vanessa he takes a moment for that news to sink in.
“But I think he comes to terms with it, extremely quickly, and it kind of just further shows how self-absorbed that he is.
“I mean he does want to know how she’s holding up, and I know that he asks a few times.
“But it doesn’t faze him at all, or his intentions one bit and what he’s there to do.”
Kirin has been on the run for four years but Rish doubts the runaway has used the time to reflect on his actions.
“I’d like to think [he’s changed] but at the same time he has come back for very selfish reasons,” Rish continued.
“And despite saying the things that he does about wanting to see Johnny and asking here or there about how Vanessa is handling her treatment.
“Whilst there’s glimmers of conflict within his own mind about whether he’s doing the right thing.

“He does still seem to be someone who’s kind of got a very blurred moral compass,” the newcomer remarked.
Has Kirin returned purely for financial reasons or could there be a secret he’s hiding from Charity?

Actor Rish has taken over the role from Adam Fielding who played the character between 2014 and 2016.
Discussing taking over the role, Rish added: ”It’s really exciting, as you can imagine. It’s always nerve-wracking stepping into the shoes of another actor.
“Adam did a brilliant job bringing Kirin to life, and I feel privileged to carry the character forward. I’ve had loads of fun and just hope I do it justice as the fans deserve.
“I’ve already seen a few tweets from people saying they’re excited to see Charity shred Kirin to bits, so I think they’re going to love seeing him maybe get what he deserves.
“There are people who want to see this fight play out and I hope they enjoy seeing all the drama because it’s definitely going to be very exciting.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm.
