Emmerdale spoilers! 15 of the biggest storylines still to come

December 3, 2018

Keeping track of all the latest Emmerdale spoilers can be hard work – after all, new storyline details and snippets are revealed on an almost-daily basis.

Here, we’re rounding up all the biggest moments still to come on the ITV soap as the show gears up towards some big Christmas episodes and an equally memorable start to 2019.

1. Daz considers a shock exit

When? Week commencing December 10

More info: Daz is left with a guilty conscience this month when he accidentally knocks over one of the villagers in the road while drink-driving. Fearful that it’s only a matter of time before the truth comes out, Daz prepares to flee from the village while he still can.

Daz’s first attempt is thwarted when he sees Kerry suffer a shock collapse in the street, forcing him to rush to the rescue and miss his flight. But will it be second time lucky when desperate Daz comes up with Plan B?

2. Harriet and Dawn’s secret is revealed

When? December 13

More info: Troubled Dawn wasn’t just brought back to cause trouble between Pete and Rhona – she’ll also be involved in a storyline with local vicar Harriet too. Dawn and Harriet will cross paths on Thursday, December 13, when it becomes clear that they know each other from the past.

Harriet seems unhappy to see Dawn, who’s surprised to learn that her former acquaintance is now part of the church. What’s the secret here?

3. Debbie goes on trial

When? December 14

More info: After nearly a year, Debbie Dingle will finally have to face the consequences of her role in Ross Barton’s acid attack. After coming clean a couple of months ago, Debbie is due to stand trial for her role in setting up what happened to Ross.

The trial is scheduled to begin on Friday December 14, just one day after Debbie’s daughter Sarah is discharged from hospital. Will Debbie be separated from her family over Christmas? There’s a real chance if the verdict doesn’t go her way…

4. Marlon and Jessie’s wedding

When? Christmas 2018

More info: After months of teasing us about an Emmerdale festive wedding, show bosses have finally confirmed that Marlon Dingle and Jessie Grant are the couple who look set to tie the knot over the Christmas period.

Jessie comes up with the idea of springing a surprise ceremony on Marlon to prove how much he means to her, but as ever with soaps at Christmas, it definitely won’t be plain sailing.

5. Bob’s festive misery

When? Christmas 2018

More info: Bob recently lost everything when his partner Laurel abruptly ended their relationship, setting the stage for a sad Christmas storyline. Emmerdale‘s executive producer Jane Hudson recently tipped Bob as one to watch over the festive period, but probably not for the best reasons.

Jane revealed that a lonely and cash-strapped Bob will be “down on his luck” this Christmas and could even end up without a roof over his head. How bad will things get for him?

6. The truth about Joe Tate’s death is revealed

When? To be confirmed

More info: Few people in the village know that Joe Tate is dead, never mind that Cain Dingle and Graham Foster are responsible. Although there’s no word on when the truth will come out, show bosses are already giving us some teasers.

When quizzed on Twitter recently about the inevitable moment that Debbie discovers the truth, Emmerdale promised “epic” scenes. We can’t wait!

Show boss Jane Hudson has also teased: “We have got huge rifts coming up in the Dingle clan that will blow apart two of our most-loved characters, and who knows if they will ever get back to where they used to be?”

7. Billy’s release

When? To be confirmed

More info: Jessie’s other son Billy must be one of the most talked-about characters in the village right now, and yet we still haven’t been introduced to him. That could change in the not-too-distant future, though, as it’s surely only a matter of time before he gets released from jail.

Future spoilers have revealed that Jessie receives a call from Billy on Thursday, December 13, letting her know what his release date will be. Could this distract Jessie from her wedding planning? And how will Ellis feel about his least favourite person arriving?

8. Lachlan returns

When? To be confirmed

More info: Just when we thought we’d seen the back of the twisted teen killer, it’s been confirmed that Lachlan will be popping up again in the not-too-distant future.

Although he’s not returning permanently, Thomas Atkinson has reprised the role of Lachlan as a guest. We know that Lachlan is due to stand trial for his crimes, but the exact nature of his return plot is currently being kept under wraps.

9. Mandy Dingle returns

When? January 2019

More info: Emmerdale will treat fans to another blast from the past in the New Year, when Lisa Riley reprises her role as Mandy Dingle after 17 years away. Her comeback will be for a “self-contained storyline” – and of course, she’s returning with a secret.

Lisa recently explained: “I could not be happier to be returning in the New Year to Emmerdale. It’s something I never thought would happen after 17 years and I am so interested to see what trouble Mandy is capable of causing. But mostly being back with all my old friends, it’s like I’ve never been away.”

Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks added: “Iconic Mandy Dingle returns to the village carrying a secret that turns lives upside down. She’s a character bursting with fun who certainly ruffles a few feathers during her short stint back in the village, and she clearly hasn’t lost any of the joie de vivre that made Mandy so popular and enjoyable to watch. We’re delighted to welcome Lisa back to Emmerdale.”

10. A mystery proposal

When: Early 2019

More info: We’re still being kept guessing over this one, but Emmerdale‘s executive producer Jane Hudson has hinted that one of the village’s couples will be getting engaged soon.

Jane promised a “very romantic proposal” in 2019 but refused to give away which two characters would be involved. Our hope

11. Kim Tate returns… again!

When? Early 2019

More info: Not deterred by being pushed off an upstairs balcony last time she appeared at Home Farm, Kim will be returning as a permanent character in 2019 once she’s served the remainder of her prison sentence.

Speaking in October, Claire King – who plays Kim – teased: “You knew she wasn’t going to go away quietly, so I’m so pleased to announce Kim will be back. It’s been great fun keeping it under wraps but now she can really get down to business!”

Emmerdale‘s executive producer Jane Hudson added: “Although Kim’s initial return was fleeting, she caused such mischief and chaos that we simply couldn’t resist bringing her back.

“Kim Tate is just getting warmed up for an explosive 2019 which will see her hell-bent on getting exactly what, and who, she wants.”

12. James Tate arrives

When? 2019

More info: Although there’s been no official announcement, it’s widely expected that Emmerdale will be introducing Kim’s absent son James Tate in 2019. Before Kim left our screens again in October, she put Graham Foster under strict instruction to find James, who was last seen on screen as a child in 1999.

Claire King has predicted that James will fill the gap left behind by Joe, who was played by Ned Porteous. She laughed: “He’s bound to be young, glamorous, gorgeous – they’re going to bring that kind of character in to replace Ned aren’t they?

“He’ll be a good looking young boy. They haven’t spoken for a while so that’s why she’s asked Graham to try and find James.”

13. Maya’s true colours exposed?

When? To be confirmed

More info: Although there’s no information yet on how Maya’s true colours will be exposed, her unsettling behaviour towards Jacob is sure to be one of Emmerdale‘s biggest soap timebombs after their inappropriate and illegal kiss.

As Maya continues to play games over Christmas, how long will it be before David realises what’s going on right underneath his nose?

14. Paddy and Marlon’s big adventure

When? February 2019

More info: Emmerdale has hinted that it’ll be filming some special scenes on location in 2019, featuring fan favourites Paddy Kirk and Marlon Dingle.

Emmerdale‘s executive producer Jane Hudson has teased: “We will be sending Paddy and Marlon off on a little adventure, next year around February time. One of them will make quite a big discovery.”

15. An all-female episode

When: March 8, 2019

More info: Emmerdale will mark International Women’s Day on March 8 with a special episode featuring an all-female cast.

Executive producer Jane Hudson confirmed: “We’re doing something rather special on March 8, International Women’s Day, now we’ve got two female producers and a female executive producer – which is the first time a soap has had an all-female team.

“We are going to have an episode that is produced by a female, directed by a female and written by a female. The entire cast will be female including all the background artists and we will have almost an entirely female crew.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
