Emmerdale fans emotional as second male character says he tried to take own life

Emmerdale viewers were left feeling emotional after a heart-wrenching episode that highlighted the importance of mental health awareness for men.

The special episode comes after viewers have seen Paddy Dingle struggling with his declining mental health over recent weeks.

The historical instalment sees the men of the village club together at a lock in in The Woolpack as they open up about their feelings and show up to support Paddy in his lowest moment.

In a candid moment, Liam also revealed that he attempted to take his own life as well while he was studying medicine as a young adult

Viewers were overwhelmingly impressed by the move from show bosses to make such a landmark episode.

One wrote: "Well done # Emmerdale This subject is so important. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45. Men should talk to eachother more. It’s ok not to be ok. There are so many resources out there for men.

A second agreed: "You got to hand it to the writers of #Emmerdale with the handling of men's #MentalHealth and its importance, fair play."
