EastEnders viewers ‘predict’ shock return for Spencer Moon – 18 years after exit

EastEnders fans have predicted a potential surprise return for Spencer Moon, 18 years after leaving Albert Square behind for sunny Australia.

The character, who was played by Christopher Parker, arrived alongside his brother Alfie (Shane Richie) in 2002, and caused rather a lot of trouble for his older sibling and at one point was even trapped in the remains of a collapsed helter-skelter.

After being arrested over for drug possession and spending the night in jail, Spencer left for Australia where he re-united with ex-girlfriend Vicki Fowler (Scarlett Alice Johnson), where the pair have remained ever since.

And some fans have now suggested that the character could return amid Alfie's heart-breaking prostate cancer storyline.

Thursday night's episode saw Alfie open up to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) about his illness, before asking Phil to keep it a secret from his family.

Phil, however, was quick to point out the hereditary risks of prostate cancer, pointing out that Alfie has both a brother and a son.

Fans were quick to latch onto the mention of Alfie's brother and share their hopes that this emotional storyline could lead to the rather bittersweet return of Spencer Moon.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "SPENCER MENTION bring him back NOW #EastEnders" while another added: "Right bring back spencer moon #EastEnders"

And a third quipped: "You don't hear much from Spencer Moon, do you? #EastEnders"

Although fans may be disappointed as Spencer's return may only be possible with a recast, as the original actor, Christopher Parker has since left his acting career behind and retrained as a lawyer.

It was previously reported that the character would be making a return in 2010, but these rumours were quickly put to bed, when a spokesperson for the BBC soap announced: "There are absolutely no plans to bring Chris Parker – or the character of Spencer Moon – back to EastEnders."

And this wouldn't be the only shock return to rock Albert Square this year, with Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) set to make her dramatic return next week.

Cindy hasn't been seen on the Square in 25 years, with the majority of residents believing that she is dead, however earlier this year it was revealed that she has been under witness protection for all of that time under the name of Rose Knight.

Sharing a sneak peek at her return, the BBC teased: "Whilst looking for Peter, Cindy is forced to return to Walford, and it’s not long before drama unfolds… Cindy’s first scenes will air next Thursday from 7pm on BBC One and 6am on iPlayer."
