Alesha Dixon was feeling the same, and said: ‘It’s been like getting the family back together, it just feels normal.

‘We’ve been working together for so long now that when we’re together it just feels right.’

But this year hasn’t come without its own problems – as Simon Cowell has confessed he’s struggling more each year to find decent acts to represent the country.

Despite leaving the limelight last year to focus on his recovery, Ant reportedly still managed to rake in a cool £3million.

But in January, Ant returned to work, starting with Britain’s Got Talent filming, which took place in front of a live audience at the London Palladium.

Ant was reintroduced to the theatre audience by Declan, who announced on stage: ‘We’ve got the judges back, the golden buzzer is back, and someone else is back. My co-host for the series, would you please welcome… Mr Ant McPartlin.’

As the audience jumped out of their seats and applauded, Ant said: ‘Oh god, I’m really, really emotional now. I’ve missed you all.’

He then pointed to Dec and added: ‘As for you, I’ve missed you. Thank you very much, what a warm welcome. What a great show to come back to, I’m thrilled, I’m over the moon…Shall we move on before I cry?’

Head judge Simon Cowell also gave his support to Ant’s return, telling him: ‘Ant welcome back. We missed you; it wasn’t the same. I mean even though Dec was brilliant, it still wasn’t the same.’

Britain’s Got Talent returns Saturday at 7.15pm on ITV.
