Could There Be a WandaVision Season 2? Here’s What We Know.February 27, 2021
Everyone wants more Wanda.
The lead character of Marvel’s WandaVision, the studio behemoth’s first serialized venture into Disney+, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) has inadvertently become an avatar for the quarantine experience: Crushed by grief and isolation, she copes by immersing herself in sitcoms. Of course, hers are a bit more real than the Office re-runs we’ve had on repeat. Still, her plight is relatable to just about everyone, even when blanketed in chaos magic and comics lore. For that reason alone, WandaVision deserves a second season. Here’s what we know about that possibility, as the Season 1 finale looms ahead.
WandaVision could have a second season, but no one’s ready to confirm it yet.
On February 24, Marvel Studios president Feige told the Television Critics Association that we can expect future seasons of some Marvel series on Disney+, but not all. Some will connect directly with a feature film. WandaVision, for one, will segue into the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
He told Variety, “There are some shows that have been built to further expand our storytelling and then go into features. We’ve already announced Lizzie Olsen being a part of Doctor Strange 2. We’ve announced Teyonah Parris being part of Captain Marvel 2. There are some shows that, while always interconnected, are being built with multiple seasons in mind.”
That being said, he told the TCA, “I’ve been at Marvel too long to say a definite ‘No’ to anything as far as a second season of WandaVision. The fun of the MCU is obviously all the crossover we can do between series, between films … Sometimes it will go into a season 2, sometimes it will go into a feature and back into a series.”
A second season wouldn’t come out for some time.
Even if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic, Marvel Studios wouldn’t likely dive immediately into filming WandaVision season 2. Because the show is connected with the larger MCU, the shows and films have to follow a specific chronology, and The Falcon and the Winter Solider is next in line, followed by several other shows and films until we reach another Wanda appearance in The Multiverse of Madness in 2022. We know WandaVision leads directly into Multiverse, so the absolute earliest we could expect a second season of WandaVision would be late 2022.
Olsen’s lips are sealed.
None of the cast have commented directly on if a season 2 is in the pipeline. But Olsen did tell Collider, “It could [have a second season].” I don’t know if you could get any more vague than that, but at least it’s not a “no”! For now, it looks like we’ll just have to settle for re-runs.
