Corrie star Ben Price admits crying at night over stepson’s ‘death’ on soapSeptember 13, 2020
Coronation Street star Ben Price admits he cries at night over seeing his TV stepson ‘‘dying’’ on the soap.
His character Nick Tilsley is having to deal with the news that his three-year-old stepson Oliver is terminally ill with mitochondrial disease.
Ben – who is married father-of-two in real life – admits filming the scenes with Jane Danson, who plays his TV wife Leanne, has been hard.
He confessed: “They are tough scenes. It’s hard I’ll be honest when you’re in a hospital all day filming. Being in a hospital 12 hours a day over a diagnosis of a child dying day after day.
“It’s an important story to tell but I go home at night and read scenes and have a little cry. You feel it.
“Sometimes Jane does something on set and it cuts you. Jane is a mum too.”
Nick and Leanne’s relationship will also be tested to the full when his old girlfriend Natasha Blakeman (played by Rachel Leskovac) turns up on The Street after 10 years.
He discovers she gave birth to his son Sam – who is now nine years old – and never told him. Ben says the news that he is gaining a son just as his missus Leanne looks set to lose the boy she had with Steve McDonald could prove too much.
He adds: “It’s overwhelming for them. It might make them split up.”

According to Tombola, Coronation Street is the soap with the highest number of splits out of the top three soaps.
61 couples in Corrie have come to a bitter end since the soap started back in 1960, making it the worst place to be married in Soapland.
In comparison, Emmerdale has had 49 splits, making it a close second, whilst EastEnders has see 45 break-ups since 1980.
Corrie continues on Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
