Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell first graced the cobbles as Emma Brooker three years ago in 2018.

The 28-year-old actress will be at the centre of Corrie's biggest festive Christmas storyline next week, which will leave millions of fans sitting at the edge of their seats.

Emma believed that Curtis Delamere (Sam Retford) was her dream man, but her world got turned upside down when she discovered that he has been lying about his factitious disorder to her for months – leading her to believe he was dying.

She begins to question whether she wants to proceed with marrying him, and fans will have to wait and see if the couple make it down the aisle.

Away from the cameras, Alexandra's personal life also includes a lot of spice, as Daily Star delve deeper into her life outside of the soap.

Spice Up Your Life

Although you might find her Corrie character humming away to the Spice Girls track 'Spice Up Your Life', fans may be shocked to find that Alexandra has a family connection to the one and only Scary Spice – AKA Mel B.

Alexandra's mum is good friends with Melanie's mother Andrea and soap star grew up surrounded by the famous girl band, as proved by many pictures of them together.

One candid snap shows a young Alexandra is surrounded by Baby, Ginger and Scary.

The star even celebrated Mel B's birthday with her, captioning a sweet Instagram snap: "Loved every second of @spicegirls. I sang every word, danced every step and got to catch up with so many with gorgeous friends!

"So lovely to be able to celebrate together for @officialmelb birthday! Best night ever. I will forever #wannabeaspicegirl."

Dad's tragic death

In 2016, Alexandra's father suffered a heart attack and sadly passed at the age of 54 after suffering an undiagnosed heart condition which prevented the blood from being adequately pumped around the body.

Despite learning that she never suffered from the same condition that her dad died from, the actress received the shocking news that she had a hole in her heart – known as a septal defect.

She previously said: "Luckily, it hasn't caused me any major problems so far. I need check-ups every five years, and if there are issues in the future, it's something they are able to close up.

"It only came to light when I was being tested for cardiomyopathy – if it hadn't been for that test, I would never have known."

Bold transformation

Taking to Instagram last April, a month into the country's first lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, Alexandra surprised Corrie fans and her followers with a pretty daring transformation.

Her luscious brunette curls were no longer brown but instead a bright luminous purple with the support of some pretty strong hair dye,

She told fans: "Quarantine made me do it".

She's even dabbled in bright blue hair, with her fans fawning over the bold snaps posted to Instagram as one gushed: "Love it," as another added: "This colour really suits you!"

A third chimed in: "Oh my God Alex, I love this."
