Coronation Street's Connie Hyde fears she'll have to barricade herself in this Christmas after betraying Sally MetcalfeDecember 7, 2018
The Corrie cast member, who plays Gina Seddon on the ITV soap, is even planning staying hidden inside at home over Christmas in case she gets pelted with eggs.
Viewers have been left outraged after watching Connie’s character Gina get close to her sister Sally Metcalfe’s (Sally Dynevor) husband Tim (Joe Duttine) after Sally got jailed for fraud, money laundering and bribery, crimes which she did not commit.
Gina actually went as far as helping her sister get locked up with her false testimony in court and she is now desperate to win the affections of Tim while Sally is behind bars.
Connie told the Daily Star: “I’ll probably be barricading myself in the house over Christmas, to avoid getting egged!”
And while series fans may be angry with what Gina has done so far, they are likely to become furious over Christmas as they see her lock lips with Tim after a few drinks on a night out.
But Connie insists Gina is not actually in love with Tim, saying the idea of slipping into a “ready-made” family setting with him is appealing.
Connie adds that Gina’s chaotic nature could be calmed by Tim, making them a good match as a couple.
When asked if Gina’s actions towards Sally are down to jealousy, Connie said: “I love the dynamic between them because they grew up in the gutter basically, they are both from a very rough background and had dysfunctional parents.
“Sally got out very early on, and Gina didn’t and that’s the cause of a lot of her problems with her relationships, and also her bipolar.
“Sally has done very well for herself. There’s comedy in that too, because she knows when she’s being all snobby.
“Gina’s the one who goes: ‘Hang on a minute, you came from the same place as me’. So I love that, it’s very complicated that relationship.”
Connie claims Gina’s desperation to form a romantic bond with Tim come simply from the need to be loved by someone as she’s had a number of failed relationships in the past.
She added that Gina’s Bipolar disorder has hindered her ability to get along with other people because of the extreme emotions she feels.
But the star is pleased soap bosses decided to cover it on the show.
She said: “It’s been positive, and I’m very glad that a light’s been shone on it, there’s a lot more people diagnosed with it than we think, especially women in their forties that I didn’t realise at the time.
“There seems to be very little known about it unfortunately, what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another person, that seems to be huge.”
