Coronation Street spoilers: Yasmeen Nazir revealed as ‘innocent’ in huge police clue

May 2, 2020

Coronation Street viewers have endured months of uncomfortable viewing as Geoff Metcalfe (played by Ian Bartholomew) slowly gained complete control over Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) life. The vile Weatherfield resident has been abusing his wife behind closed doors, isolated her from her friends and family and tricked her into believing his acts of abuse were attempts to prove how much he cared about her.

In last night’s instalment, Yasmeen’s suffering came to a head when he threatened to kill her.

While the pair celebrated Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Tim Metcalfe’s (Joe Duttine) upcoming nuptials, Yasmeen discovered he had secretly taken money from Speed Daal without her or Alya Nazir’s (Sair Khan) permission.

Her disapproving reaction led to Geoff dragging her out of the pub and locking her away at home.

Back at their house, Geoff humiliated Yasmeen and took great pleasure in cruelly revealing the dress he’d bought for her was intended for a prostitute.

“What was I thinking of giving you that dress,” he spat. “Well, I can tell you what I was thinking of actually, firm thighs, full cups, hips you can hold, creamy young skin, glossy red lips.

“What you actually think I’d bought it for you? Like that sassy little number screams Yasmeen.”

“I bought it for someone who would fill it in all the right places,” he hit out.

As Yasmeen tried to get the dress off, Geoff quipped: “No it’s a bit late for a striptease Yasmeen, that ship has sailed.”

The Speed Daal chef tried to reach out to her husband but fell onto the floor as he cruelly started laughing at her.

Geoff then backed her into a corner with a knife as he spat out: “Maybe I should kill you, do the world a favour, would anyone notice if you were gone?”

Yasmeen picked up a wine bottle and smashed it against his head before stabbing him in the neck and spoilers confirm she will be arrested for the violent act.

Coronation Street viewers know Yasmeen has been suffering at the hands of her husband for months but worry Geoff’s manipulation of situations will leave police and her friends turning against her.

However, one fan has spotted a huge clue that suggests Yasmeen will be cleared of any malicious intention.

The ITV soap fan tweeted: “Yasmeen’s already sought a Clare’s Law disclosure, so she should be okay #Corrie.”

In recent scenes, Alya persuaded her grandmother to get into contact with the police to find out whether Geoff has been violent against partners in the past.

Clare’s Law allows people to request information from the police to find out whether their partner has a history of domestic violence.

Concerned third parties can also request this information from police and other agencies including social services.

But when Yasmeen discovered Geoff had been involved in a domestic incident, her husband persuaded her this was a misunderstanding and, in fact, it was him who was the victim.

Although things aren’t looking good for Yasmeen, could her decision to investigate Geoff’s past help her case with the police?

Coronation Street continues Monday on ITV at 7.30pm.
