Coronation Street fans panic as major character 'disappears' from soap – but did you spot who?November 2, 2021
CORONATION Street fans were left spooked as the show appeared to dish out a post-Halloween trick.
Eagle-eyed viewers of the ITV soap were quick to spot one star's hand practically disappear mid-scene, as they were sitting in the iconic Rovers Return pub.
One Coronation Street regular joked the incident was akin to a Harry Potter spell while another quizzed: "Was there a glitch in the matrix #Corrie?"
It came about as hairstylist Emma Brooker, played by actress Alexandra Mardell, was attempting to help boyfriend Curtis Delamere with his homework.
She sat at a table opposite the bar while reading a chunky text book and struggling to pronounce some biological terms.
As she explained what they were to Tyrone Dobbs, and reached to turn the page, half of her hand including her fingertips appeared to disappear.
One fan spotted the eerie occurrence as they mused on Twitter: "Her hand disappears …"
Another commented: "Was there a glitch in the matrix #Corrie? Where does Emma’s hand go?"
"Was there a glitch in the matrix #Corrie? Where does Emma’s hand go?"
One then wrote: "What happened to Emma's hand," before they quipped: "Is she auditioning for Harry Potter?"
Another surmised: "Think ITV messed up here and watch her hand disappear into the background in Coronation Street."
An ITV viewer then excitedly typed: "WOOOAHH What happened to Emma's hand in the Rovers Return?! When she was reading that book her hand disappeared!"
A final viewer suggested Emma's hand had disappeared "into the CGI/ green screen depths of @itvcorrie."
Prior to being compared to The Matrix and Harry Potter, the ITV soap was recently likened to BBC One drama Line Of Duty.
Fans suggested scriptwriters had been "watching too much" of the gritty crime show when they penned the nail-biting smash between Harvey Gaskell's van and Dev Alahan's car.
The dramatic Corrie scenes saw the corner shop owner leave his son Aadi to burn, ignoring the teenager's pleas for help.
It comes despite the fact the dad, played by Jimmi Harkishin, chose to save his twin sister, Aasha, leaving fans outraged.
The jaw-dropping scenes, which came when the family was on a camping trip, saw drug dealer Harvey's hijacked prison van crash into the back of the car.
The vehicle then upturned itself and burst into flames.
ITV viewers took to Twitter to comment, likening the action to that of high octane BBC drama Line Of Duty, which had a dramatic van smash stunt in season six.
One remarked: "Is this the opener of a new series of #lineofduty?"
Another then posted: "Am I the only one thinking of that famous #LineOfDuty scene when watching that prison van crashing into Dev’s car on tonight’s episode of #Corrie?"
