Comic Con Manchester: ‘TV and film icons bring weekend of unforgettable fun’

August 3, 2022

Comic Con Manchester held the golden ticket to an unmissable weekend of pop culture fun recently, featuring some of the biggest names in entertainment.

By the fans, for the fans, the Monopoly Events team delivered a phenomenal convention to delight all generations at Bowlers Exhibition Centre, Manchester last weekend.

The unforgettable weekend featured huge icons from TV and film including a reunion of the original child cast from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, Little Mermaid voice star Jodi Benson, Cobra Kai actors Martin Cove, Jesse Kove, Ron Thomas and Tony O'Dell, along with Hollywood icon Zachary Quinto.

That's not all, as they were also joined by stars from Lucifer, Police Academy, Teen Wolf, The Lord Of The Rings, Superman And Lois, The Walking Dead, Supernatural and Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, in addition to TV legends Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner.

With an all-star guest line-up and activities throughout the weekend including a Cosplay parade, trade stalls featuring items including figurines and recreations of famous newspaper covers from films including Back To The Future and Ghostbusters, as well as exciting Q&A panels where fans could learn more about their favourite franchises, Comic Con Manchester delivered their most incredible event yet.

Speaking of CosPlay, fans delivered spectacular tributes to their favourite characters throughout the weekend, including anime characters, Marvel and DC heroes and Star Wars icons, to name but a few.

The attention to detail in the costumes was awe-inspiring, with particular favourites from the weekend including fans dressed as Marty McFly from Back To The Future, and fans dressed as Chewbacca who posed for photographs with generations of Star Wars fans throughout the weekend – including myself!

A love for Eddie from Stranger Things was certainly clear in the room too, with dozens of fans dressed in his memorable Hellfire Club t-shirt.

One fan even took to the stage to display some impressive guitar moves during the weekend, in tribute to Eddie's guitar playing in the Upside Down during Stranger Things 4, with fellow fans in the room applauding the amazing moment.

Another fan also delighted convention goers when dressed as Freddie Mercury, he led the room in the "Ay-oh" chant from Queen's memorable Live Aid performance.

And if that wasn't enough, even Britains Got Talent stars Boogie Storm took part in all the action, getting the crowd dancing with their amazing routines.

The weekend continued to deliver memories to last a lifetime, as excited fans queued to meet their heroes for photo opportunities and talk to their favourite stars.

As a fan myself, it was a dream come true to talk to Peter Ostrum and Julie Dawn Cole about one of my favourite films growing up, Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, as well as meeting huge stars including Jodi Benson.

Monopoly Events attract some of the biggest names in entertainment, but they also create once in a lifetime memories at events like Comic Con Manchester, which fans will certainly never forget.

Another thing that Monopoly Events are famous for is the stunning recreation of famous TV and film sets and props – and Comic Con Manchester certainly delivered.

From the Lux Bar sign in Lucifer to a full scale recreation of the boat from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, it was as if you were stepping into the scenes themselves – providing fabulous photo opportunities in the process too.

If you really wanted to feel as if you were stepping into a film too, the Bowlers Exhibition Centre bar was the place to be – with the entire room designed like the famous Star Wars Cantina bar, complete with replicas of characters from the film, which was a treat for any fans of the beloved franchise.

Overall, Comic Con Manchester 2022 was certainly one of the biggest and best conventions yet.

With more on the way from Monopoly Events, including Comic Con Wales this weekend (August 6-7), Comic Con Scotland in October and Comic Con Liverpool in November, I cannot wait to see what the future holds in store for these amazing events.
