Casualty star reveals big spoilers as the soap returns

December 15, 2020

Medical drama Casualty has been off our screens for four months but at last we can begin counting down the days until it returns to our screens on January 2 at 19:35pm.

Casualty star George Rainsford, known for playing Dr Ethan Hardy, appeared on BBC One’s Morning Live earlier today (December 15), to talk to hosts Gethin Jones and Kym Marsh about Casualty’s return.

Speaking about the first episode, that takes a detailed look into these extraordinary times through the lens of the ED, George said how ‘the whole episode is incredibly emotional. It’s our coronavirus episode and we felt as a medical drama we needed to tell that story.’

The episode sees the team attempt to cope with the toughest challenge of their careers, and as George added, the episode doesn’t miss a single thing:

‘We needed to highlight what the NHS front line workers have been up to, and the episode is full of lots of very challenging and harrowing scenes.’

Unlucky in love Ethan Hardy has had plenty of attempts at relationships over the years, and most recently, he had a one night stand with Paramedic Finesha Khatri (Olivia D’Lima), who quickly learnt she was pregnant with Ethan’s child. George continued his chat with Gethin and Kym, adding how Ethan felt about Finesha saying she had chosen to abort their unborn baby:

‘Ethan thought she had a termination, which, as sad as that is, was a bit of a relief for him as his back story is that he has the Huntington’s gene, so it was a big thing to discuss with her. But the viewer has learnt that she didn’t, so she is very much pregnant, and continues to be during lockdown!’

On discussing the episodes after the coronavirus special, George revealed there are some incredible scenes on the way:

‘There is a big, juicy episode coming up quite soon once we’ve dealt with the big coronavirus special. There is a return to the show as it might be more familiar to the viewer, lots of big, bold stories that Casualty is well known for, and lots of character driven stories too.’

Casualty returns to our screens on January 2 at 19:35pm.
