Callum's concern at worrying signs amid Ben's bulimia struggle in EastEndersApril 27, 2023
Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has had a tough year in EastEnders, and husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay) has begun to grow concerned for his wellbeing, unaware that Ben is currently battling bulimia.
In recent scenes, viewers have seen Ben partaking in excessive exercise and turning down offers of food as he struggled to cope with everything going on in his life.
Bulimia is a condition that sees sufferers do both of these things, as well as eating a lot of food in a short amount of time, before making themselves sick or using laxatives to stop themselves gaining weight.
While Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) expressed concerns for her son as he fought to stop Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) adopting daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown), she thought that he had turned a corner when he finally agreed to share parental rights.
However, it was soon revealed that not all is as it seems when Ben emerged from the Queen Vic toilets having been sick, and it was revealed that he has been silently struggling with an eating disorder.
In tonight’s (April 27) episode, Callum pointed out that Ben’s breakfast from the previous morning was in the bin.
When Ben used his boxing training as an excuse, Callum joked that he would have eaten it had he known that Ben was going to throw it away.
Later, having put their differences aside after their adoption row, Callum and Ben headed to Lola (Danielle Harold) and Jay’s for a curry night.
Though Lola wanted to wait for Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) to arrive, Ben was eager to get stuck in.
As he quickly tucked into the curry, Callum shot him a confused look.
Will Callum realise that there is something wrong and be able to help Ben as he battles with his eating disorder?
