Call the Midwife’s Jennifer Kirby talks Nurse Trixie’s epic return for Christmas
December 22, 2018Jennifer Kirby, AKA Nurse Valerie Dyer, has revealed how excited they are to see Trixie Franklin return on the show.
In the seventh series of the show, Helen George, who plays Trixie, disguised her baby bump throughout the filming before taking time off to have a child, meaning her character was seen in earlier episodes before taking a leave of absence from the hospital.
Now, she is back on the show, and Jennifer described her excitement of being back on screen with Helen, revealing what may be happening for the star.
She said: "She [Trixie] is a really, sort of, I’ve always really loved Trixie even before I was in the show because she has sort of surprising depths, I suppose.
"I think she’s a really interesting character in that way.
"She’s back and it’s lovely to have her back and she’s in fine form."
Those who are big fans of the show will remember how Trixie struggled with alcoholism and after the breakdown of her relationship with Christopher, she turned back to the bottle and needed some time off to get back on track in her personal life.
Jennifer also revealed a little bit about Miriam Margolyes’ cameo in the show, as she will feature as a nun who adopts orphan refugees over Christmas.
Jennifer continued: "It’s a laugh a minute, so good, I’m surprised got anything done!"
But that contrasts to the most recent series, at the end of which was tinged with sadness by the death of Nurse Barbara.
Jennifer believes the show deals with tricky issues and is more than just "comfort vieweing, adding: "Everything they [Call the Midwife] tackle is tricky and often things that haven’t been touched on in primetime telly."
Call The Midwife Christmas special airs on Christmas Day on BBC1 at 7.45pm and Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30am on ITV.
