Bruno Tonioli makes big Strictly Come Dancing error on The One Show, and viewers call him out

December 3, 2018

Bruno Tonioli might be a Strictly Come Dancing judge, but he proved on The One Show that he’s most definitely not a Strictly historian.

The most energetic of the Strictly experts has been trawling through the BBC archives to put together the brand new DVD Bruno’s Bellissimo Blackpool, so you’d think he’d have a grasp on the winning track records of past contestants. Not so.

Bruno was discussing fellow judge “Crazy Craig” Revel Horwood’s notoriously fussy critiques with The One Show‘s Matt Baker and Alex Jones, as well as guest Gabby Logan, on the BBC One chatshow on Monday (December 3) when he bungled Matt’s placement on Strictly.

“You won it and you made it to Blackpool,” Bruno retroactively congratulated Matt.

“There we are,” Matt grimaced, before correcting Bruno: “I came second.”

The four erupted into laughs as Bruno tried to explain away getting his facts wrong, with Matt admitting to viewers: “It’s descending into chaos! Let’s put a film on, shall we?”

“Yes, let’s,” Alex desperately agreed.

Of course, viewers were also surprised that Bruno botched the Strictly fact since he was present the night Matt came runner-up to Kara Tointon:

It should be no surprise that pranksters immediately pounced on the error and vandalised Matt’s Wikipedia page to wrongly claim that he’d won series eight of Strictly thanks to Bruno’s gaffe.

Look at what you’ve done, Bruno!

The One Show airs Mondays through Fridays at 7pm on BBC One.

Strictly Come Dancing continues with the semi-finals on Saturday (December 8) at 6.35pm with the top five couples each performing twice, before one more pairing leaves during the results show on Sunday (December 9) at 7.15pm on BBC One.
