Nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards have just been released ahead of the ceremony on September 21. After picking up several awards and nominations for CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, Jim Parsons has been recognised by the Emmys for his performance in Ryan Murphy’s new Netflix series, Hollywood.

The wildly successful sitcom ran for 12 seasons on CBS before The Big Bang Theory came to an end last year.

The geeky comedy series proved a star-making project for the cast, most notably Jim Parsons for his role as anti-social physicist Sheldon Cooper.

Following this year’s Emmy nominations, it has been confirmed Jim Parsons is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.

Parsons decided to depart the series after 12 seasons to pursue other projects, including his first post-Big Bang role in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood.

The sitcom star was widely acclaimed for his performance as predatory agent Henry Wilson in Murphy’s fictionalised retelling of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Hollywood could be set to win big at this year’s award ceremony, picking up a total of 12 nominations for the limited series.

Parsons joins his co-star Dylan McDermott, nominated for his role as ‘Ernie’ West in the same category.

Alongside the Hollywood co-stars, the Emmys also nominated Tituss Burgess for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend.

HBO’s Watchmen also broke records with 26 total nominations, the most of any single series in the award show’s history.

The Big Bang Theory star joined three supporting actors from the acclaimed superhero series, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jovan Adepo and Louis Gossett Jr.

Fans who know Jim Parsons primarily for his role in The Big Bang Theory were stunned by his new look and lecherous performance as Henry Wilson.

He is also known for featuring in the Academy Award-winning drama Hidden Figures, and reprises his role as Sheldon Cooper by narrating the prequel series Young Sheldon.

It was recently confirmed two more seasons of The Big Bang Theory were planned before Parsons decided to exit the sitcom.

As well as picking up two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor, Hollywood was also recognised with Little Fires Everywhere, Unbelievable, Unorthodox, Mrs. America and Watchmen for Best Limited Series.

Holland Taylor was also nominated for her supporting role as studio executive Ellen Kincaid.

Additionally, Hollywood received several nominations for production, costumes and make-up.

Although the mainline sitcom series came to an end in 2019, The Big Bang Theory story will continue when Young Sheldon can return to production following the coronavirus pandemic.

Jim Parsons’ co-star Mayim Bialik, who plays neurobiologist and Sheldon’s wife Amy Farrah Fowler, has unfortunately quelled rumours of a reunion for the series.

Fans are still hopeful the cast will eventually reunite on-screen after The Big Bang Theory’s unexpected conclusion last year.

The Big Bang Theory and Hollywood are both available on Netflix.
