BBC journalist Victoria Derbyshire signs up for this year's I'm A Celebrity

October 22, 2020

VICTORIA Derbyshire is the fifth name to be confirmed for this year’s I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!, The Sun can reveal.

The popular 52-year-old BBC journalist and news-reader will join other famous faces including Vernon Kay, AJ Pritchard, Jessica Plummer and Beverley Callard in the Welsh castle.

Victoria’s new venture comes just months after the Beeb axed her daily talk show.

An insider said: “Victoria is always game for a challenge so when she was approached for I’m A Celebrity she jumped at the chance.

“It’s always something she’s wanted to do but because of her family she’s never wanted to fly to Australia and be away from them for so long.

“When the show moved to Wales and the opportunity came up, she didn’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth so said yes straight away.

“Victoria is really looking forward to the challenges and to getting started on the show.”

The broadcaster is a well-respected figure in TV and overcame breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2015.

Victoria, who had a single mastectomy, said after the diagnosis that she wanted to get as much as she could out of life.

She explained: “I’ve always lived to the full but now I’m squeezing life out of every second.

“I want to spend more time with family and friends – they’re the most important part of my life. But I’m saying yes to more things.

“I want to embrace everything.”

I’m A Celebrity will kick off next month at Gwrych Castle in North Wales with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly returning to host the hit ITV series.
