The 80-year-old antiques dealer added that he had a lot of "fun" on the show, with the furniture expert first appearing on Antiques Roadshow when it began in 1979.

Speaking to the Daily Star, John said: "Antiques Roadshow took up one day per week.

"I'd arrive in the evening, have drinks. It was great fun.

"I didn't do a sober once for 15 years."

Unsurprisingly, John is quite the connoisseur when it comes to alcoholic beverages, also revealing that he once wrote to a James Bond film producer with a fact about the spy's token drink.

He shared: "If a martini is shaken, it's called a Bradford. I wrote to Cubby Broccoli with this information.

"He wrote back saying, 'Mind your own business'."

John is an antique dealer who worked with Sotheby’s for four years before joining his family business, which was established in 1891.

His two sons have also joined the business, which has been running for five generations.
