Antiques Road Trip presenter leaves guest sobbing after valuation – but all is not as it seems
May 13, 2022PAUL Martin from Antiques Road Trip brought one guest to tears and was not because of a valuation of a vintage piece.
The TV host headed to Norfolk to surprise selfless volunteer Emma Brock in a special segment on The One Show called, One Big Thank You.
Emma's friend Hazel had nominated her not volunteering at the local community shop, raising money for children's groups to take trips and putting together care packages for the elderly in winter.
Above all of that amazing work, Emma put a “worry chair" in the shopwhich she invites people to sit in if they need to chat about their troubles or just need a reassuring cuppa.
Paul told the camera about the planned ruse: “I’m just about to drop in to reveal some rather surprising news to Emma about her ‘worry chair'.
“I’m gonna pretend it’s a mid-century design classic, and even more special than she already thinks it is.”
He told Emma he was there to film for Antiques Road Trip and began valuing the chair.
But Emma piped up: "That’s my worry chair, you can’t have that!”

He went on to label it an “OBTY” chair – a nod to The One Show’s segment.
Paul talked about “rare” chair while Emma watched on and he even pointed out an “authentic” OBTY tag on it.
The TV host took things even further by finding a fake advert of the same chair confirming its vintage value.
Unsure what to say, Emma was then shocked when Paul revealed the real reason for him being in the shop.

“I’m not here for the Antiques Road Trip,” he told her.
“I’m here on behalf of The One Show and we would just like to say One Big Thank You for all the work you’ve done here in your shop for your local community.
“The chair is special but you make this chair so very special.”
Emma started crying and told him: “Thank you, thank you.”
