ANT and Dec caused chaos on Britain's Got Talent as they encouraged a pair of 'Ghostbusters' dogs to run off stage.

The animal-loving duo couldn't get enough of the pooches on Saturday night's show –  and the feeling was mutual.

Ant and Dec, both 43,  left the audience in hysterics as the performing pooches preferred to hang out with the BGT hosts, rather than to start their act.

It left their owners baffled when they ran off to the side of the stage to hang out with Ant instead of doing their performance.

Even judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams did not look impressed.

Ant was over the moon and even bent down to stroke one of the dogs.

David Walliams asked the performers to introduce themselves and their four-legged friends – called Merlin and Piper.

But when Alesha excitedly asked them to start the act, the dogs took off to the side of the stage where a giggling Ant and Dec were standing.

Jo said: "The sheepdog is trying to visit Ant."

Dec said: "Look at that. Still got it."

Meanwhile Ant joined his co-host Dec, for his first big event since his January comeback.

He admitted he was unsure he would ever return to the red carpet after his rehab stint.

Asked if he ever feared not coming back, Ant said: "Of course I did.

"But it's hard work and I'm getting through with the support of a true friend like Dec and the public. It means a lot to be back together on the red carpet."

Dec said: "Ant was away for a lot of the time last year.

"I saw the groundswell of goodwill and best wishes for him."
