Wigan unveil new Crusty the Pie mascot for this season and fans absolutely love it – The SunAugust 2, 2019
WIGAN have unveiled Crusty the Pie as the club's new mascot for the 2019/20 season.
And Latics fans absolutely love the odd tribute to their favourite half-time snack.
Wigan presented Crusty to club supporters at the DW Stadium earlier this morning.
Latics chiefs asked young fans to come up with design ideas for a new mascot back in March.
And a pie – the local special – won the contest, joining West Brom's former cheerleader 'Boiler Man' among the weirdest mascots in world sports.
But that is not to say that Crusty did not get a very warm welcome from the Wigan faithful.
Many of them took to Twitter to express their delight over a brilliant homage to the savoury snack.
Dave tweeted: "Crusty the Pie, brilliant."
While Jay added: "Haha, this is class."
Gemma wrote: "So much love for this."
While a Manchester City fan sensed the worst and said: "We’re gonna get knocked out the FA Cup again by Wigan and they’ll have a pie dancing on the pitch at full time."
Paul Cook's men are hoping for a much better Championship campaign having finished 18th last term.
Wigan are hosting Neil Warnock's Cardiff in the first game of the season tomorrow.
